On the horns by PetaloMaM On the horns by PetaloMaM
This is a scene and characters based on The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss.
The main character Kvothe spends a large part of the novels studying at the University. The characters sitting around the table are the nine masters:
- Master Physicker Arwyl
- Master Archivist Lorren
- Master Artificer Kilvin
- Master Namer Elodin
- Chancellor Herma Master Linguist
- Master Rhetorician Hemme (AKA "King-high bastard")
- Master Sympathist Elxa Dal
- Master Alchemist Mandrag
- Master Arithmetician Brandeur
All students pass through an examination during admissions, due to the shape of the table and the imposing nature of the room and the examiners, the experience is known as "Riding the horns", or being "On the horns".

The Amyr shield was shamelessly copied from the amazing art [link] by ~Rikkenian

For the October theme of :iconkingkiller-fans: (on the very last day)

Drawn with a pencil, then inked with a dip pen and an ink pot.
The pencil version is here [link]

EDIT - I wonder if someone could tell me why on March 26th so many people spontaneously visited this drawing

Awesome. I love that Kilvin looks a bit like Rothfuss ;) And Elxa Dal is exactly how I imagine him.

Thank you very much!
Kilvin was based on Rothfuss, and Elxa Dal was based on Vincent Price.

I actually based all the characters around the table on real people, except the Chancellor and Hemme, their faces were so small I just made them up.
So I guess when I spontaneously draw a face, I tend to draw Lincoln.

Mr. Rothfuss himself has described it as Renaissance. Probably the clothes I used are from a slightly later period...
Thanks for the comment anyhow.

Where he said it? xD

Just to know bro, ur picture still awesome!

In the reddit site, where the readers can interact with the author a gay asked Pat Rothfuss:

"MagiesNoms"
Hi Pat. I just started the Kingkiller Chronicles on a recommendation from a friend about 2 months back, and I haven't quite finished the 2nd one yet. I really like your style though. It's very refreshing after going through the Song of Ice and Fire series.
When I first started out, I was very confused as to the "time period" the book is set in. After a few chapters I realized it wasn't set on our Earth, but I'm trying to get a handle on what sort point in history the books would be set on in their own world. At first I thought perhaps it was something equivalent to the Victorian era, like around 1850s. I guess Londonesque Tarbean combined with the 19th century type of inventions made by the university gave me that idea. But the transportation system and weaponry still seems very old, not having any guns or trains yet. Do you think you would be able to place the book in a particular time period equivalent to our Earth's, or is it really just it's own kind of world given that sympathy allows for more advanced technologies?
Are the first 3 days just like a prelude, to introduce the character Kvothe and provide a history? After he's done telling his story, is he going to go back out for some more adventuring? I suppose you probably can't say...
If they made a TV series/movie out of the Kingkiller Chronicles, who do you imagine playing Kvothe?
Keep up the good work!"

He replied (Pat):

"See... the whole thing about this being a different world means that there is no Victorian Era. Because, for one thing, there was no Queen Victoria. No industrial revolution. No England.
It's a whole different world. It has its own history, technology, and culture. It's not like I'm just taking feudal Japan and changing some of the names around so it seems different...."

Can you tell me where he said that the story happens in the Renaissance (im not being ironic! i REALLY want to know bro! !) Thank you!

Shit!, I can't remember.
I think it might have been when he was being interviewed by Jim Butcher, or some other interview I heard. He was commenting on how he writes. He was explaining how he seldom goes into technical details when he describes things in his world, he said something like "Instead of studying books about sailing in the late renaissance, and using technical terms that tend to distract the reader and seem to be included just to prove how much the writer knows..."
If you happen to find the right interview, let me know.
Cheers!

Thank you. Obviously you've read the books, I was trying to capture the feeling that the students must have felt when the walked into this room with a bunch of older annoyed men, who've been sitting in the same chairs for way too long, and feel like anything except listening to yet another annoying kid.
